Turn Coat Stand by Skagerak is an elegant addition to any hallway or foyer and provides a place to hang your favourite outerwear. The main framework of the design is constructed from two pieces of half cylinder solid ash wood, steam-bent into an arch and stabilized with aluminium bracing. An ash rail at the top of the stand provides the place to hang your garments using Turn Metal S-Hooks or any other coat hanger you already own.
Steam bending is a magical technique where wood becomes as flexible like rubber after being contained within a sort of long sauna! As the wood cools it loses the flexibility and sets into any new shape you have made.
The Turn Collection was born from designer Line Depping's genuine fascination with the art of bending wood. How steam, compression and lamination can turn wood into sculptural designs inspired by the forms of water drops, waves, and half-moons. Line was born and raised in a little city called Otterup located on the northern part of Funen, the second largest island of Denmark. She got her degree in furniture design from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2007 and has been exhibiting at grand design scenes such as the Cabinetmakers' Autumn Exhibition, Milano Design Week, Stockholm Furniture Fair, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and Galerie Maria Wettergren in Paris.
