Ombria Candle Holders are designed by Anders Arhøj for Kähler. The glazes for each candle holder are applied by hand making every one unique. The contrast between the matt and almost glossy random spots creates an exciting and fascinating expression.
A rounded base with changeable height rims raise these distinctive holders off the surface and adds a delicate lightness to the design.
The Ombria series is inspired by textures, colours and nature from the coastlines of Denmark: The deep blues of the sky and ocean, white chalk cliffs, green lyme grass and slate grey pebbles. The texture is a universe of silky smooth and raw, matt surfaces just like wild bird eggs. To emphasise the authenticity, the series is made in stoneware, which offers a natural rawness and structure.
Anders Arhøj describes the new series for Kähler as follows: "Ombria means shadow or contrast, which is the very starting point of the design of the series: Light and shadow, matt and glossy, narrow and wide, light and heavy, masculine and feminine. The lines are inspired by the geometrical trapezoid shape, which is narrow at the bottom and wide at the top; a shape that allows each part to reach for the observer while hovering over the table on its small base."
